Style My Kid / June from Korea

Style My Kid is our style diary to celebrate children and a glimpse into the world of children-inspired fashion. With this new series, we ask moms a couple of questions about how they dress their little people and hope that you?ll get inspired by their styling tips, must-have baby gear and how they?re so awesome!

Today, we?have invited June,?a mom to HeeJae living in Korea. We've been stalking them on Facebook for the longest time and admired their ?playful but chic style.?

What is your favorite childrenwear brand??

I don't have one favorite brand for clothes, shoes and accessories.?But I like Le Petit Society from HK, Ouch from Australia, Chocolate Elephant and Puu Ja Puu from Korea, Petit Bateau and Boden from western Europe.

Where do you shop for your son?

I don't enjoy shopping at big malls or department stores. It is hard to get inspired or imaginative when you are bombarded with products and other customers.?But at the same time, it is hard to find good stand-alone children's wear stores.

So I often buy from online stores that are recommended by other stylish moms.?I go back to smart intuitive online shops with good photo quality and an easy payment page.?But when we travel in a strange new city, I tend to buy more from real shops. Sometimes it is fun to be an "analog shopper"!!

What is your personal style?

I have always liked simple clean cut outfits for work and fitted jeans and white tops for casual wear.
I am tall and boyish (both figure and character) and I never developed likings for girly designs or details.?I had hoped to have a daughter so I can buy pink frilly dresses and ribbons and such.?But instead, I have one son who just turned 2 and expect to have one more son in 2 months time.?I guess frills, laces or ribbons really are not my thing after all.

What is Hee Jae's style??

I like well fitted and comfortable clothes with interesting graphic or colors. ?I firmly believe in buying the perfect size for him.?It doesn't matter if he will only wear it for a month before it becomes too small.?I hate baggy clothes on kids, with passion!
Secondly, his clothes should be comfortable.?I learnt that HeeJae would take off his clothes no matter where we are if it is itchy or too-too tight or makes weird noise and what have you.?So before I put on any item, I make sure fabric is not itchy, stitching is smooth and so on.

What is your son's favorite piece from Le Petit Society??

HeeJae looked really cute in the Be happy No rain tees and the colorful stripe tees from last season.?And from the Whimsical Safari collection - he loves all the prints!?Safari theme is a truly winner at the Johnsons'.

What is one signature fashion piece in your son's wardrobe??

I guess it changes all the time.?Kids grow so fast when they are this young.?But if I mention a couple, this past summer HJ's most praised fashion item was his rashee guard from Oz.?We had spent quite a bit on this swim wear and hats when we went to Australia .?As you are probably aware already, it is hard to find swimwear with good designs and quality in Asia.?So many kids and moms were envious!!?And HJ's blue checkered shirt from Le Petit Society was a winner every time he wore it. It looks great with white, red, beige and denim bottoms. We received endless compliments!

What would you like to see more in childrenswear?

Clothes that adapt well to weather changes such as?shorts that can be cleverly zipped up to become pants or short sleeved tops that can be transformed to long sleeves.?We live in Korea and the change of seasons here can be a difficult time to dress kids. Temperature can drop quite quickly in the evening and we are often not ready to deal with the surprising sunshine or sudden chills.
